The weather took center stage on Sunday as legion teams continued tournament action around Chittenden County.

Rutland Post 31 took down White River Post 84 in the first contest at Colchester High School, and the only full game of the day uninterrupted by weather.

Post 31 put on in the display in the fourth as it tallied seven RBIs and went on to win 12-4. Rutland survived elimination with the victory, while Post 84 was sent packing.

In the other elimination game on Sunday, South Burlington battled Essex in a game that spanned two towns.

The contest began in the morning at Essex High School, but a rain delay halted the game in the sixth inning, and the game was moved to Colchester High School.

Almost seven hours since the game began, and in the tenth inning, Post 91 first baseman Cory Giannelli hit a walk-off RBI single to give his team the 6-5 win.

In another contest at CHS, Brattleboro Post 5 waited out a rain delay and defeated Lakes Region 7-2 in a winner’s bracket matchup.

A game between S.D. Ireland and the Colchester Cannons was on the schedule, but weather pushed it back to Monday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at CHS.
