Vermont men’s hoops gears up for UMBC

UVM will host UMBC this Saturday for the America East Championship.

The Catamounts and Retrievers have quite the history. UVM fell to UMBC in the 2018 America East Championship game at the buzzer. The only two conference losses Vermont had this season, were also to UMBC.

The Cats are the number one team in the conference, but are facing a team they don’t have the best luck with. The Catamounts will host its fourth straight conference final, the third in a row at home, and 13th in program history.

UVM’s Ernie Duncan will be playing in his fourth straight title game, which will also be his final time playing at Patrick Gym. Duncan will share the UVM court for the final time with brothers Everett and Robin.

“I’m really blessed to be in the situation that I’m in right now. I’m really excited for Saturday and hopefully win my last game at Patrick. I can’t wait for 11 a.m.” said Ernie Duncan.

“I think it’s more of the couple times we’ve played them this year that will provide an edge to us hopefully. You can’t worry about the last couple games, we can take a lot from that. As coaches we’ll use the film to help us prepare but, I think the players have been really focused throughout the playoffs and it’s been going really well. I expect that to continue” said John Becker.

Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday at Patrick Gym. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and all of the coverage will be on Local 22 & Local 44 news.
