Woodstock girls’ tennis finishes D2 three-peat

Sports

It was only the conclusion of match five, but the Wasps already sealed up the Division II title.

Woodstock senior Katey MacMaster took her singles bout against U-32’s Addie Hannan 6-4, 6-1 and her team rushed the court to embrace her and celebrate the victory.

WUHS’s first doubles pairing of Kenzie Biele and Chloe Noble secured the first win of the day 6-2, 6-1 over Sierra Henderson and Zoie Bauregard.

The next two wins were claimed by Wasps singles competitors Olivia Marsicovetere (6-1, 6-0) and Momo Biele (6-1, 6-1) to put their team up 3-0.

U-32 second singles player Lucy Krokenberger rallied against Lydia Howe to stave off the Wasps momentarily, and picked up the win in tiebreaking fashion, 2-6, 6-0, 13-11.

That victory only held off Woodstock momentarily, as MacMaster took the clincher in straight sets at the adjacent court.

The Wasps finished off the day with five match victories to the Raiders’ two.
