Smoke coverage & upper level winds July 10 2019

Good Wednesday evening! Wednesday was a warm summery day that featured sunshine and temperatures well into the mid and upper 80s. The sky wasn’t bright blue, you’ve probably noticed a good amount of smoke and haze from wildfires burning to our north and west in Canada. Meanwhile, dewpoints have crept closer to 60°, that’s not super muggy but you can definitely notice it now.

Storm threat Thursday July 11 2019

Wednesday night, we remain clear but temperatures are not going all that far, only falling into the mid and upper 60s. I suspect some may be turning on their air conditioners for sleeping tonight. The real change comes our way through the day on Thursday. We wake up under partly cloudy skies but, as we progress through the late morning and into the afternoon showers and storms begin to fire up. The strongest storms will likely be found in northwest New York. They’ll try to put down heavy rain, damaging wind, hail, and frequent lightning.

While all that is happening, highs will climb into the low to mid 80s and the air gets a downright sticky and tropical feeling. I can hear the air conditioners humming from here. That stick hangs around Thursday night while showers and thunderstorms weaken and linger. Lows will be in the upper 60s. Friday, spotty areas of rain and isolated thunder continue through the early afternoon. We will begin to clear things out as we head towards the late afternoon; highs will be in the low to mid 80s. Humidity will take a bit longer to leave, it’ll likely remain at least a little sticky through early Saturday morning.

As of now, the weekend looks pretty good! Saturday we’ll be dry and mostly sunny with highs back into low and mid 80s. Before you panic, remember that humidity will stay manageable. Sunday, a few showers cannot be ruled out the more north you are but most will remain dry. High temperatures will stay the course in the low 80s.

The weekend is almost here!
